The Pfizer vaccine for kids was approved last Wednesday, and the soonest appointments available around us were for Sunday. We opted to go today (Monday) instead when the drugstore would be less busy with kids at school and people at work. Olive just turned 10 last month, and Charlie is turning 12 in December. When we planned our trip to the US, we knew that the vaccine would most likely be approved for Olive’s age group by the end of the year. So we timed our trip to make sure the kids could get both doses of vaccine before we went back to the Philippines, because it’s unlikely the vaccine for kids 5-11 will be available there any time soon (the 12+ age bracket was just approved).
I made an appointment with CVS online, and I was also able to schedule flu shots for me and Mr. Bee. We got a reminder text two days before our appointment, and another one an hour and a half before our appointment time with a link to check in on arrival. There was no line, and we were able to get shots right away. The kids had to sit and wait for 15 minutes to make sure there weren’t any immediate side effects, and then they got their vaccine cards. Since the CVS was inside a Target, we also got $5 Target gift cards with each of our vaccines! It was so quick, easy and efficient!
Did anyone else get their 5-11 year olds their first covid vaccine this week?

So wonderful they were both able to get it! My DD is 6 (7 next month) and she had her first dose on Saturday! It was such a fun and exciting time. We saw three of her classmates while there, the staff had used chalk to decorate outside, and they made posters for little photo booth spots in the observation area! It felt like a celebration!

The wait is over – it is so exciting! We are scheduled for later this week at the pediatrician office. I had scheduled an appointment at a pharmacy that we had not been to before but we think the kids would prefer their pediatrician.

It’s awesome – our two older kids got it last week. Wish little sister was old enough! Among their friends they were all excited to get it and I’m so thankful it’s available. Then over the weekend we booked a big trip knowing they’d be more protected!

Hooray! Our kiddos received theirs on Sunday morning. Such a massive relief – I actually cried when I finally got through the phone line for their pediatrician and successfully got the appointment. It took me completely by surprise – I could barely say goodbye at the end of the call, I was so choked up!

That’s so exciting! Our 9 year old got his on Friday (and we got our boosters then too). Now we just need to wait for our 4 year old to turn 5 at the beginning of February! Hope you guys are enjoying your time in the US – it’s so nice to read about your adventures again.

Out of curiosity, would Charlie get the higher does in dec since he’ll be 12? Been debating whether to vaccinate my soon to be 12 year old now with the 5-11 dose, or wait a couple months for the 12 and up dose

@sonia – charlie is scheduled for his second dose before his 12th birthday. If the vaccine had not been approved yet for 5-11, we would have gotten him the one for 12+. But since it was approved, we would rather have had him get the smaller dose and have protection a month earlier. It’s definitely something to ponder! I am ok with him getting the smaller dose, but we probably won’t have access to boosters in the philippines.
