I cannot believe it is almost Easter! Doesn’t it feel like 2018 just started?? Where does the time go? Every year feels faster than the last, that’s for sure.
Personally, I think Easter baskets are a great excuse to stock up on things that are just around the corner, like summer and back-to-school. Every year, I do a little easter egg hunt in our home. The kids wake up the morning of, and start zooming around the house looking for their little egg surprises. I don’t even think they care that much about what’s inside the egg (usually coins, stickers, tattoos, mini erasers, and some candy). They just like the process of opening them up and discovering things. At the end of it all, they are also presented with an Easter basket (though this year, I’m thinking about hiding it and making them find it).
These are some things I considered when trying to put together their baskets:
Fun Stuff
1| Slime – What kids don’t love slime? And on top of that, slime enclosed in an egg! These would be perfect for Easter. Or you can make your own and stuff it into an egg! To build off that, play-doh or silly putty in an egg would work too!
2| Art Supplies – No matter the age, art supplies make a great option for Easter baskets. I’m always replenishing our art supplies anyway, so stuffing an easter basket with them is the perfect excuse to buy more. Sidewalk chalk, glitter glue, washi tape, colored pencils, stamps, scented markers, etc.
3| Mini Lego set – Legos never get old… these little sets would make the perfect basket stuffer.
Practical Stuff
4| Straw Cups/Tumblers – I bought these Contigo stainless steel straw cups that are spill and leak-proof for my kids awhile back because I was tired of washing a million take n toss straw cups every day. They have this one straw cup to use at home, and every time they ask for water we refill it. These would make a really great gift in the Easter basket, and the designs are so pretty.
5| Swim/summer stuff – No better time than now to purchase things like swimsuits, flip flops, and goggles because you’ll need them anyway since summer is right around the corner!
6| Accessories – My daughter loves accessorizing (maybe a little too much). If applicable, maybe some cute earrings (or stick on earrings), hair clips or headbands, sunglasses, etc.
7| Books – You can never have too many books! I don’t necessarily put an Easter themed book in our baskets… I usually choose books that they already have an interest in. For Mister Chucks, that would be the next book in the Press Start or Mighty Robot series, and for Lil’ Miss Louboutin, it would be a new chapter book from The Never Girls series.
8| School supplies – Perhaps a new pencil case, craft scissors, fun post-it notes, or a cute notebook for them to write or doodle in.
Yummy Stuff
9| Kinder Egg Surprises – My kids LOVE these. The egg shape makes it a great choice for easter, it comes with a little fun surprise, and it’s delicious to boot.
10| Popcornopolis Cones – These carrot shaped, popcorn filled treats aren’t too unhealthy and it’s carrot shaped, so really fits with the Easter theme.

Love all the ideas! Are the Contigo straw easy to clean? We use Take n’ Toss cups at home for milk and I like them because we can just toss when the straw gets gross. For water we use Foogo Thermos but I notice the inside gets slightly black (mold?)and it’s hard to clean so I have to replace the straw. Would love to find a new straw cup that’s easy to clean and doesn’t get moldy!

I love the idea of things that are useful, or things that are getting worn out or too small, and not the candy.
I’ll be putting similar things… crayons, bubbles, small lego kit, bandaids, toothbrush, hair accessories, socks, swim goggles, and pajamas.
Last year we did a scavenger hunt with clues around the house that lead them to their basket. We’ll probably do something similar.

@dolphin: we haven’t had mold issues with our contigos! The straw twists apart into two parts (from above the lid and below the lid), so easy to clean. And they have never leaked, even if the kids bring it to bed with them and it tips over! I still keep take n toss cups around though cuz they’re so convenient!

@Teachermama: ooo summer pajamas and a scavenger hunt are a great idea! Agree no need for extra sugary snacks.
