6 weeks until Christmas! I’ve purchased the kids’ stocking stuffers and we have our tree up (Christmas celebrations start on September 1 in the Philippines!). I just need to get 1 big gift for each kid. I’m hoping to get new bikes for them, but decent ones are impossible to get on this island so if I can’t get them I’ll have to figure something out! Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

Interesting article about cursive. I can’t imagine anyone seriously arguing for teaching typing and coding to the exclusion of handwriting–you have to know how to write! And the study that said typing notes results in less comprehension feels correct–but I’m not so sure about the argument that cursive is faster than printing. I don’t think that’s necessarily true. It IS faster than the older style of cursive, but probably not faster than printing for someone who’s had a lot of printing practice and developed their own style, so to speak. Anyhow, it’s a moot argument as far as I’m concerned.
I plan to teach cursive (and maybe even some calligraphy) because I think there’s value in making good-looking documents by hand.
