Nature table 1

We love having a nature table. Often it’s the place we put the leaves, twigs or pinecones my children have found on a nature walk. Recently my son has become interested in sea life, especially shells and sea stars.

We collected all of our sea life materials and created a little display and a sea life themed nature table. This is such a fantastic way to experience hands on learning.

While some of our delicate items are on display, I feel it’s important to have materials available for the child to touch, smell, listen to and to look at closely. This is the perfect spot to have a magnifying glass or a bug magnifier.

The book we are using is The Seashore, from the My First Discoveries series.

I also made some labels. They help me remember the correct name of the specimens, but they are also good for early literacy.

We also have a little sand tray, to make imprints and have some pretend play.

A nature table doesn’t need to have a theme. Often it’s a good spot to celebrate the seasons and explore items from nature a little more closely!
