Have you tried making apply slinkys with your toddler? This is a really fun way to make a healthy snack.
I have seen this apple slicer in every Montessori toddler class I have been to, and I just had to try it at home! Now it’s a favourite. Supervision and adult help (often to get the apple on) is required.
What I love about this activity is that it requires effort. To turn the apple around is hard work for the child. All of the hard work is eventually rewarded with the tasty apple. Every time the child does it, it gets easier. Afterwards the child feels really satisfied and accomplished with their efforts. It allows the child to exercise their skills, strength and to increase their abilities.
This is a great activity for snack or for when making apple pie.
Most apple slicers also have the option of making the apple slinky without peeling it. Getting a good quality apple slicer with a firm suction base is important. And it’s worth it — the apple slicer can be used with pears, potatoes and it lasts for years!
We also use the Fun Pod which allows children to safely work at the kitchen bench, but the Learning Tower is highly recommended also.
Happy slicing!
