I love reading day in the life posts and seeing how other families make it work. Currently I work part time and Mr. P works 65+ hours a week. Baby P is 5 months old. Here’s 24 hours in the Pickle’s household.
. . . . .
12am: Everyone is sleeping soundly.
12:43am: Baby P is awake. I go into the nursery and nurse her.
12:53am: Baby P is back in her crib and I’m back in bed.
3:37am: Baby P is awake again. I get up and go nurse her.
3:52: We are both back in our beds.
4:56am: Baby P is awake for a third time. I go in and nurse her. Fortunately her wake ups are short and it’s easy to get her back asleep. On nights where she doesn’t want to go back down, I wake Mr. P after she nurses and he gets her back to sleep.
5:10am: Baby P is asleep again and so am I.
7:37am: I hear that Baby P is awake. Any wake up after 7 I treat as the start of the day. I peek at her on the video monitor before going to get her out of her crib. She’s incredibly happy in the mornings. I change her diaper and get her dressed. Mr. P left for work a couple hours prior so I text him good morning.
7:50am: I take Baby P into the living room and put her down on a blanket on the floor with some toys. I let the dogs out and go into the kitchen, make coffee, and pour a bowl of cereal.
8:00am: I let the dogs back in and take my breakfast into the living room. I turn on Netflix to an episode of House of Cards and nurse Baby P while I eat.
8:30am: It’s time to get ready. Baby P hangs out in the bouncer in the bathroom while I get dressed, brush my teeth, and put on a little makeup.
8:45am: Baby P goes back onto the living room floor with her toys while I pack the diaper bag. I make sure to have a couple diapers, wipes, my nursing cover, a blanket, and some toys. I load it into the car along with Baby P’s Fisher Price chair. I nurse her again and then buckle her into her car seat.
9:05am: Baby P and I leave for work.
9:20am: We get to work. Baby P fell asleep on the drive, which is great. I hope she stays asleep while I walk in, but she wakes up when she’s greeted by my boss’s dog. I go over the day’s work with my boss.
9:30am: While I’m working Baby P spends some time in her chair, then down on the floor with her toys. She gets hungry and I nurse her, then she falls asleep on me. I take a 10 minute break to change her diaper when she wakes up.
12:20pm: I’m done with work for the day and need to run a couple errands. The weather is awful and I want to go straight home, but I’ve been putting things off. I get gas in my car then stop by the grocery store and pick up a couple things.
12:55pm: We’re home. The dogs run out when I open the door. I put Baby P down to play while I change into workout clothes, pull my hair back, then fix myself lunch.
1:05pm: I let the dogs back in and pick up Baby P so she can nurse while I eat my lunch.
1:20pm: Baby P is finished nursing and wants to stand in my lap, grab my face, and blow raspberries. I let her for a couple minutes because it’s cute before I put her in the swing for a nap. I eat some more of my lunch while she fusses.
1:30pm: Baby P’s fussing has turned into hysterics. I get her out of the swing and nurse her a bit more. Once she’s done she goes back into the swing. She fusses a little more and then falls asleep. I finish my lunch while watching an episode of Modern Family.
2:00pm: I put in 30 Day Shred and try to tune out Jillian as best as I can while I workout.
2:15pm: Baby P is awake. I get her out of the swing and put her in the jumperoo while I finish my workout.
2:30pm: I’m done and I get Baby P out of the jumperoo. She’s got a dirty diaper so I change her. She’s wearing her last clean cloth diaper so I put her in a disposable. I grab the bag of dirty cloth diapers and put them in the wash.
2:40pm: I’ve got a pile of laundry that needs to be folded and put away. Baby P plays while I fold.
3:10pm: I get through half the laundry before Baby P starts to fuss. I stop and nurse her and then go back to folding.
3:45pm: All the laundry is put away. I change Baby P’s diaper and then sit down for what I expect to be a quick nursing session. She falls asleep so I hold her while she naps.
4:30pm: Baby P is awake. We get down on the floor to play. I read her a couple books and she practices sitting up.
5:00pm: Baby P is fussy and the weather is better so I load us into the car and drive to McDonald’s. I order myself a small mocha frappe while Baby P dozes in her car seat.
5:15pm: We’re back home. I leave Baby P sleeping in her car seat in the kitchen. I load my breakfast and lunch dishes into the dishwasher, start it, and then put away the dishes in the dish drain. I start prepping dinner. The washing machine signals that the diapers are done so I put them into the dryer.
5:30pm: Baby P is awake. I nurse her then change her diaper.
5:45pm: I put Baby P in her chair in the kitchen while I continue to prep dinner. She plays with the toys and we “chat.”
6:00pm: Baby P is over her chair so I put her in the jumperoo. She jumps happily while I finish dinner prep.
6:10pm: I’m done with prep and dinner is simmering on the stove. Baby P is still happy so I leave her be while I clean up after myself and feed the animals.
6:20pm: I get Baby P out of the jumperoo and she cuddles in my lap while I browse job listings for Mr. P. She gets hungry and nurses while I email him my findings.
6:50pm: I let the dogs out, stir dinner, then get the diapers out of the dryer. Baby P plays on the living room floor while I stuff them.
7:10pm: After I stuff the diapers I join Baby P and we play.
7:20pm: It’s almost time to start the bedtime routine. I let the dogs back in and then I bring Baby P’s tub, towel, and wash rag into the kitchen. I fill her tub in the kitchen sink before I go into the nursery where I turn out the white noise and lamp and lay out her sleeper and sleep sack.
7:30pm: It’s bathtime for Baby P. When Mr. P is home at an earlier time we eat dinner around 6:45 and then he bathes Baby P and gets her dressed for bed. On those nights he will clean the kitchen while I nurse her. Since he isn’t home yet, I turn off the stove and cover dinner to keep it warm before bathing Baby P. She splashes, kicks, and coos while she gets clean.
7:40pm: Baby P is clean and I’m soaked. I wrap her up and we go into the nursery where she gets some lotion on before being put in her sleeper and sleep sack. I brush her hair and then sit in the rocking chair to nurse her.
7:50pm: Mr. P is home. He comes into the nursery to say hello to me and goodnight to Baby P. She’s extremely happy to see him and squeals with delight when he picks her up. They cuddle for a few minutes and then he hands her back to me so she can finish eating and go to bed. She’s not interested in nursing so I read a couple short books to her.
8:25pm: Baby P is down. I’m expecting her to wake again before she’s down for the night. I’m starving so I don’t waste any time fixing my dinner. I make a plate for Mr. P too and join him in the living room. There is a college baseball game on the tv. We eat and chat about our days while it plays in the background.
9:10pm: I leave the monitor with Mr. P and go shower.
9:30pm: I head into the kitchen and start cleaning up. Mr. P joins me. We unload the dishwasher, pack away leftovers, load the dishes from dinner, and put away Baby P’s bath stuff. The dogs go out one last time.
9:55pm: I make myself a glass of water and stop in the living room on the way to bed to pick up Baby P’s toys and blanket. While Mr. P showers I turn on an episode of House of Cards and check CNN on my phone for the day’s primary results.
10:15pm: Mr. P and I decide we want dessert so we each have a small scoop of ice cream. We turn on a movie in our bedroom and it becomes background noise as we research stockpots. Mr. P wants to buy a larger one before our annual crawfish boil.
10:35pm: I take my ice cream bowl to the kitchen and put it in the dishwasher. I brush my teeth and take a prenantal.
10:45pm: Mr. P and I chat a little more before declaring it’s gotten late and that we better go to sleep.
10:55pm: I peek at Baby P on the monitor and she’s sleeping soundly. I’m shocked that she didn’t wake back up after I put her down like she usually does. I say a prayer for a good night of sleep.
11:30pm: Baby P is crying. I go in the nursery and feed her.
11:45pm: I’m back in bed and fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.
12:00am: All member of the Pickle household are sleeping soundly.

I love that baby P is always happy to play by herself! Maybe I was just being a FTM, but I felt like I could never get anything done cause she didn’t like to be set down alone for too long!
We always talked about having an annual crawfish boil too, but so far we’ve never made it happened

very nice that you can bring her to work! how about when she gets a little older and is more mobile and wants more attention?

@regberadaisy: she really is. She’s been pretty laid back since day one.
@snowjewelz: She’s really just started playing in the last month or so. Before that I held her a lot more often. When I was looking back over my notes for the day I felt kind of bad since she spent so much time alone. As long as she can see me and I talk to her she’s happy though. DH grew up in Louisiana and can’t go a season without crawfish! I never tried them until I met him.
@Snowybreeze: oh I doubt this set up will work longer than a couple more months! I’ll have to find some sort of childcare. I’ll have to see if I can start working regular hours or find a different job. The long term plan is to work full time, but that won’t happen until DH finds a different job and we settle in our new location.

This made me lol: “I put in 30 Day Shred and try to tune out Jillian as best as I can while I workout.” I totally used to put her on mute and just listen to music instead

Long work days are such a bummer. I’m glad mr p got to say goodnight, I know it takes a toll on me if I miss goodnight.

Jillian Michael’s is a good workout, but not so fun to listen too. Try the Fitness Blender or Bikini Body Mommy workouts! Your ups and downs with baby P and her at work sound exhausting, but it’s amazing that you can bring her to work and still concentrate.

What a day! It really shows how tiring our days can be. I loved how you got yourself a treat at McDonalds. I used to do that too when Lil’ Pizza fell asleep when she was a baby. I would order a vanilla cone, fries, and a coke and enjoy it in the parking lot while she snoozed. Then came a day when she started to ask for the treats…

This sounds like a good, but busy day! You inspired me to finally finish my DITL post!
Also, she is cute and sounds like such a good baby! Although I’m sure you’re ready for her to cut out at least one of those nighttime feedings.
