Before starting my registry I was so intimidated. There are so many choices! How do I know what is going to work for Baby P? I scoured Hellobee blog and board posts, got some advice from friends, and managed to put together a list that I was happy with. I wanted to make sure that I had items at a variety of price points and that I didn’t have more than I can use or need.
1. Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System – After browsing Consumer Reports, Mr. P and I knew we wanted to get the Chicco KeyFit 30 since it’s the #1 rated infant car seat. We test drove the accompanying stroller and loved how easy it is to snap the car seat in and out and how easily it converted to a toddler stroller.
2. We have our eye on a standard Tula baby carrier.
3. Seat Protector – I’m hoping this will keep the upholstery in my car somewhat clean.
4. Sun Shade – It gets extremely hot in the car here with the sun beating down on you, so I’m hoping this protects Baby P’s sensitive skin.
5. Mirror – This is for my peace of mind. I like the idea of being able to see Baby P while I’m driving.
6. Summer Infant Contour Changing Pad – I briefly thought about getting something fancier, but I think a classic changing pad will work just fine.
7. Aden + Anais Changing Pad Cover – I chose this changing pad cover because I like the pattern. I also registered for a cheaper plain white one.
8. Aden + Anais Crib Sheet in White and Make Believe – I registered for three crib sheets so that I always have one clean in case of middle of the night accidents.
10. Dekor Plus Diaper Pail with 11. Cloth Diaper Liners – I like the size of this diaper pail and that the liner can be washed with the diapers.
12. Baby Hangers – I’m looking forward to hanging up some tiny baby clothes on tiny hangers.
13. We are getting a Foscam in lieu of a video monitor.
1. Boppy Pillow with the 2. Jacks Slipcover – I plan to use the pillow for nursing and tummy time.
5. Bebe Au Lait nursing cover – I love how light this cover feels and the variety of patterns it comes in.
3. Nursing Pads and 4. Lanolin – According to all the guides, these are necessities for breastfeeding moms.
4. Breast Milk Storage Bags – I’d like to build up a freezer stash so storage bags are a must.
6. A Variety of Bottles – Since I don’t know what type of bottle Baby P will like yet, I registered for a small pack of bottles from several brands including Tommee Tippee, and 7. Philips AVENT.
9. Boon Lawn Drying Rack – I’ll admit Mr. P and I really like the look of this drying rack. We skipped the accessories.
10. Fisher Price Booster Seat – Mr. P and I like this booster seat because we can clip it onto our dining room chairs, can easily take it into restaurants or to friends’ houses with us, and it’s easy to wipe down.
11. Munchkin Mesh Food Feeder and 12. Snack Catcher – All of my friends have these items for their little ones. They seem really convenient.
13. Gerber Cloth Diapers – I have always heard these make the best burp cloths.
14. Aden + Anais Burpy Bib – This bib will be for catching drool and spit up. Orange is Mr. P’s favorite color so he picked the Life’s a Hoot pattern.
15. Koala Baby EZ Wipe Bib – This bib will be used when Baby P starts solids. I think having a bib that can be wiped down after meals will mean quicker clean up.
16. The First Years American Red Cross Baby Healthcare and Grooming Kit – This kit has a lot of essentials like nail clippers, a brush, and a snot sucker.
17. Braun Forehead Thermometer – Mr. P and I would much rather use this than any other type of thermometer. I like that we won’t have to wake her to take her temperature.
18. VTech Safe and Sound Audio Monitor – This monitor is supposed to drown out white noise. It also has a vibrate setting.
1. Gerber Washcloths – These cotton washcloths seem like they will be really soft on Baby P’s skin.
2. 3 Sprouts Hooded Towels – These towels are a great size and Baby P should be able to use them for a long time. I love the hippo, walrus, and tiger.
3. Skip Hop Moby Bath Spout Cover – This will keep Baby P from hitting her head on the faucet when we move to bathing her in the bath tub. I think the whale is super cute.
4. The First Years Newborn to Toddler Tub – I was bathed in a version of this tub when I was a baby. It seems like a classic choice.
5. Aveeno Bathtime Solutions Gift Set – I’m not sure what type of shampoo and soap will be best for Baby P’s skin, but this seems like a good one to try first.
6. Pampers Sensitive Wipes – I might eventually make some cloth wipes, but these will be great in the beginning.
7. Boudreaux’s Butt Paste – This is a popular diaper rash cream among Hellobee moms. I’m hoping if it is good for the majority it will be good for us, too.
8. BumGenius 4.0 Cloth Diapers, 9. Diaper Sprayer, and 10. Wet Bag – Mr. P and I are hoping to cloth diaper Baby P. We are drawn to all in one diapers to hopefully make the process a bit easier. The wet bag is for my diaper bag for dirty diapers on the go.
11. Aden + Anais Swaddle Blankets – I think all moms rave about these blankets. I love how soft they are!
12. Summer Infant SwaddleMe – I decided to register for one swaddle. If Baby P doesn’t like this one I will pick out another brand to try.
1. Fisher Price Rainforest Melodies & Lights Gym – There are so many gyms to choose from. Mr. P and I picked this one because we like the animals.
I left a few must have items off my registry because we are borrowing a few items from friends and also purchasing some things ourselves. From our friends we received a 2. Snugabunny Swing and 3. bouncer, 4. a jumperoo, the 5. Mamas and Papas Chair with activity tray, and some infant toys. If Baby P doesn’t like the swing, we’ve also been offered a 6. Rock n’ Play. I didn’t register for any clothes because I know people will buy them regardless. I also left off items for and older baby and toddler because I didn’t want to have to store things for several months before I need them.
Experienced moms, what do you think of my registry? Is there anything you would add or take off?

I have a seat protector that is more along the lines of this one (http://www.target.com/p/munchkin-car-seat-protector-black/-/A-535337#prodSlot=medium_1_2 ) but mine is a bit wider as those mesh pocket in the pick are on either side of the seat it is perfect for putting in the kids sunglasses in. I could never get those window shades to work, so they were a waste for me, hopefully you will have better luck.
I would ditch the hangers, the kids clothes were almost always in the dresser or baskets for easy access.
The rest of it is a crap shoot really I had a lot of that stuff (some hand me down) and so much my kid didn’t like but others LOVED. So I say put it there if you get it great and if the kids don’t love it craigslist! Or save it if you plan on expanding the family because the next child may like it and then when your family is at the size you want then craigslist.
I think you have a good list of things there it looks very similar to what was on mine. Full disclosure I didn’t create my registry it was too overwhelming, when my sister heard this she volunteered. So she (a mom of three) and her youngest (at the time age 7) took my registry info and went to town both loved it. I reviewed everything they put on before I publicized the list and I only took a few things off.

a nosefrida and a white noise machine!

Looks like a great list! One comment on the Bumgenius diapers…you mention wanting all in one but the 4.0 is a pocket diaper (which to me is easy but does require stuffing). If you want a true Bumgenius all in one you need Freetimes or Elementals.

I second what Mrs. Bee said. The Nose Frida is completely awesome!
As far as cloth diapers, be careful of the diaper cream you have on here. I am not sure if it’s cloth diaper friendly or not. We used CJ’s butter. I would also recommend a diaper sprayer. When the baby is breastfed, it won’t matter since you can throw everything in the washer, but eventually, you might want one.
For what @danda: said – we used the Freetimes and they were much easier to deal with than the 4.0s. No stuffing involved

Great list!! You are so much more organized than I was when I had DD, ha!
The only thing I would consider is “splurging” for a Keekaroo Peanut Changing Pad – I’m telling you, it is the #1 baby thing I own and so many moms after seeing it in my nursery have gone out to buy their own.
It wipes down clean and is SO nice not have to wash/change the icky covers. Plus, it really isn’t that much more expensive after considering you will need to buy a pad and a few covers. When I looked at the cost it was only 10-15$ more expensive.

The pampers sensitive wipes actually are much harsher than they sound! Go for the seventh generation or honest wipes (we prefer seventh generation)

California baby makes a great diaper rash cream that’s cloth safe. Earth mama angel baby makes one too- I prefer the CB for rashes and EMAB for everyday use. If you use the butt paste you’ll need to use disposables or a liner with your cloth diaper.

Instead of the plain mirror, I highly suggest this one:

Regarding the Boon lawn, if you plan to do any pumping, you should get one of the flower accessories. It can hold the small pump parts like the valves and membranes (for a Medela pump at least).

@danda: you’re right! That’s a mistake in my post. I want the pockets for faster drying times and the ability to use different inserts if needed.
@NorthStar: @Anya: thanks for the tip about the diaper rash cream. I had no idea! I’ll take that one off and switch it for something cloth friendly.
@Mrs.Maven: that’s so awesome that your sister created your registry.
@Mrs. Bee: We have a white noise machine that Mr. P bought for himself and decided not to use after a couple weeks. The Nose Frieda freaks me out! Everyone says it works so well, so I’ll probably have to get over it.

Also for drying things if you find counter space is at a premium, I used an over the shower head caddy (I hung a command hook on my cabinet to hand the caddy on) to dry bottles and pump parts. My cabinet is next to the sink like in this picture (http://tinyurl.com/ojtdryg). I still use the caddy it was sippy cups and valves and then straw cups, and now just a regular extra drying rack, it is going on 3 years of use now. And the shower caddy I have is

You have quite an extensive list! My baby girl is 18 months now, and we are planning for a 2nd, so it’s great for me to read expecting moms lists so I can keep in mind what we loved, hated, needed but didn’t have, and never used. In the end you will make your own choice and everyone has different preferences (and so do the babies!), but hands down, the thing that helped us get to sleeping through the night was a white noise machine, specifically the Dohm classic model (Amazon, about $50).
We hated the Butt Paste (grossest consistency and smell and didn’t stay on long) and now only use Desitin or the Burts Bees but Desitin is the best for staying power and getting rid of rash really quick on our girl. We cloth diapered until about a year. I also highly recommend the Nose Frida–I was also grossed out, but it is freakishly satisfying and SO much more sanitary than those squeezy bulbs we grew up with (and they still use at the hospitals). The Boon drying rack is awesome if you aren’t exclusively pumping–it is not big at all, and can fill up quickly, but the whole thing can go in the dishwasher and looks way cuter on the counter than any other rack. I also recommend you get the flower for small parts (those little pump parts are especially annoying) and we still use it now for sippy cup parts and daily quick baby dishes. We also only use Seventh Generation wipes–they are a great price in bulk, and we’ve never had bad rashes or reactions. We live in a cold state, but started swimming at our YMCA at 6 months, and now do lakes and pools all the time during the summer. I would recommend you look for a swim diaper if you plan to swim, which is so fun when they’re just learning how to sit up.
Lastly, the seat protector thing is actually unsafe to have in between your car seat and the actual seat, and if you have your carseat put in by a professional (lots of places offer this) they will tell you not to use it. Plus, when they are under a year, they’re never really eating in the car and my carseat hasn’t left a mark on the seat since then (cloth material, though–if you have leather, that might be a different story), and we switched to a convertible car seat at about 13 months.
Good luck! The stuff can be overwhelming and it doesn’t end, but you’ll find out your preferences quickly and hopefully have a resale shop you can recoop some of your costs at if you only use things once or twice, or outgrow something quickly. Or you can always regift to other baby mama friends!

We had that bathtub and it got small really quickly, ended up buying another one that is working really well, and I think will work for many more months. My daughter is 10 months now and sitting up and splashing around in this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BUO464Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

I think the Bordeau’s in the green tube is cloth diaper friendly, but the tan colored ointment isn’t. Burt’s Bees isn’t either. We love the Weleda diaper cream. It’s pricy but lasts forever and doesn’t stain our diapers or clothes. I’ve found that Seventh Generation or Honest Company wipes are best for our family because sometimes a wipe gets thrown in the wash and unlike Huggies or Pampers these brands don’t break apart and get all over everything.

I’d recommend doing some more research on the seat protector. I believe those can void the warranty of your car seat if they are not approved by the manufacturer. But some manufacturers make one… We personally have the Britax seat protector for a Britax car seat. Either the carseatlady or the carseatblog did an in depth post comparing all of the seat protectors for safety, ability to properly secure seat, and protectiveness to the seat.

i just don’t know if you’ve registered for enough stuff. babies require SO much, you know?

Totally agree with @Mrs. Bee and @Mari – flowers for boon drying rack are so handy. Also the Medela pump and save bags are terrible – so stiff, they leak, and when you pour milk out it can come out through the holes. The lansinoh ones are much better. The Medela ones are great to have around the house and garage-we use them for loose screws/nails, batteries, etc and then hang them on hooks so you can certainly find a use for them.

I agree with the other poster, seventh generation wipes are the best. I would also recommend Triple Paste as a diaper cream.

I would add a sunhade the stroller and a mattress pad or two for the crib mattress.

I would register for more then 3 sheets, I’ve gone through 5 in one night. My kids were both big spitters!
kiwi / 511 posts
@JCCovi: Funny would go days without needing to change mine, hardly went through bibs either. He was not a spitter or drooler. One can never tell but 3 is a decent start, Amazon prime is a wonderful thing you can have extras in 2 days.

@Mrs. Pickle: so excited for you! This is a really great list, way better than I had! It is so daunting to figure out what you might need or what the baby might like!
I agree wth the nose Frieda, it gets out so much snot!!
Also, we like the glass Dr. Browns bottles and they do come in the small size if you want to try one!
Definitely get a crib mattress pad for leak protection, and 3 sheets is enough it’s what we have!
I use the kid hangers a lot for all of her dresses, coats and other sizes or items that she won’t be using for a while!
I really loved Motherlove Nipple Cream (Whole Foods carries it) because it was all natural and really helped for those first two weeks my body was getting used to breastfeeding around the clock!
The Boppy Lounger Pillow, different than regular Boppy, is a must because that was where I put her after everyday feeding not and it was super comfortable and portable to take everywhere with me!
Further, even you aren’t planning to use them or if you baby doesn’t want one right away, it’s good to have a pacifier or two around. Our LO is oppressed with her Wabanubb and it’s become her paci and lovey all in one! She didn’t take it till about 4 months, but it’s been a lifesaver since then!
I think your right now to include clothes or books either since people love to get those as gifts!
Okay last peice of advice is really keep every receipt until you actually use something and make sure the baby likes it. Or if you have a registry at Babies R Us, they will take back items, if they sell it in the store without a receipt, just because you have a registry with them!
Good luck and sorry for the book of rambling!

I would suggest not using a white changing pad cover!! They end up with poop on them and poop stains.

I agree with the commenters on multiple sheets and crib pads. I always layered my crib sheets for quick changes if needed in the middle of the night.
I put a mattress protector down, then a sheet, then a crib pad, then another sheet, then another crib pad, then another sheet. I do this until I have three sheets on the bed. If there is a leak or a blow-out or spit-up in the middle of the night, all you do is pull the sheet off and there is a dry one already on the crib. No making cribs at 2 am and waking up the baby even more.
