Logic seems to defy me when we are TTC, and even still during early pregnancy. I assumed that if I was pregnant, my symptoms would be just like those during my first pregnancy.  But I read too much into them, and somehow I always make my way over to see what Dr. Google has to say about nausea and early pregnancy symptoms, or lack thereof. When you’re trying to conceive, everything can seem like a pregnancy symptom. Then in early pregnancy, the lack of pregnancy symptoms causes you to worry. I thought I’d share my early symptoms by DPO, or days past ovulation.

Gut feeling:  Not Pregnant

1 DPO – No symptoms

2 DPO – No symptoms

3 DPO – No symptoms

4 DPO – Tired.  In bed by 9.

5 DPO – Exhausted.  Took two naps.  In bed by 10.

6 DPO – Exhausted.  Took two naps.  In bed by 8:30.

7 DPO – Practically slept all day.  Lower back ache.  Convinced my period is coming.

8 DPO – Christmas Eve.  Tired and cranky.  Breasts feel a bit sore.  Sharp twinges of pain in early afternoon.

9 DPO – Christmas Day.  Nausea set in and nearly knocked me on my feet.  Mild cramps.  Negative pregnancy test.

10 DPO – Worn out and tired.  Cramps and nausea.  Sore breasts.  Very light positive on First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test

11 DPO – Tired, nauseous and lower back cramps.  Mild period-like cramps.  Darker positive on FRER; beta came back at 14.

12 DPO – Exhausted.  Napped twice.  Lower back cramps and mild period-like cramps.  Headache.  Very bloated.  Even darker positive on FRER.

13 DPO – Same as the day before.  My repeat beta came back at 50.

My beta was repeated again on 15DPO (187) and 19DPO (860). My doubling time is about 25 hours.

 . . . .

In the following weeks my symptoms have been fairly consistent in feeling, but seem to come and go.  I learned that no two pregnancies are alike, and it’s been hard for me not to compare this pregnancy to Chloe’s because I was consistently sick with her until 16 weeks.

I suspect that implantation occurred on 8DPO, so any symptoms I had before that were likely related to day-to-day life and had nothing to do with pregnancy.  I was very aware of my symptoms starting on Christmas Eve, and knew something was going on but wasn’t sure if I was pregnant or sick.  In hindsight, I remember that our cats became very clingy and attached to me which is very unusual for them.  The only other time I recall either of them doing this before was when I was pregnant with Chloe.  Not that your animals behavior should be an indication of pregnancy, but it seemed a little coincidental to us.

My morning sickness really picked up at 6 weeks, then subsided enough that it made me worry. It came back in full force at 8 weeks and hasn’t stopped, though.

What kind of early symptoms did you experience?  Did the lack of pregnancy symptoms worry you?
