Logic seems to defy me when we are TTC, and even still during early pregnancy. I assumed that if I was pregnant, my symptoms would be just like those during my first pregnancy. But I read too much into them, and somehow I always make my way over to see what Dr. Google has to say about nausea and early pregnancy symptoms, or lack thereof. When you’re trying to conceive, everything can seem like a pregnancy symptom. Then in early pregnancy, the lack of pregnancy symptoms causes you to worry. I thought I’d share my early symptoms by DPO, or days past ovulation.
Gut feeling: Not Pregnant
1 DPO – No symptoms
2 DPO – No symptoms
3 DPO – No symptoms
4 DPO – Tired. In bed by 9.
5 DPO – Exhausted. Took two naps. In bed by 10.
6 DPO – Exhausted. Took two naps. In bed by 8:30.
7 DPO – Practically slept all day. Lower back ache. Convinced my period is coming.
8 DPO – Christmas Eve. Tired and cranky. Breasts feel a bit sore. Sharp twinges of pain in early afternoon.
9 DPO – Christmas Day. Nausea set in and nearly knocked me on my feet. Mild cramps. Negative pregnancy test.
10 DPO – Worn out and tired. Cramps and nausea. Sore breasts. Very light positive on First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test
11 DPO – Tired, nauseous and lower back cramps. Mild period-like cramps. Darker positive on FRER; beta came back at 14.
12 DPO – Exhausted. Napped twice. Lower back cramps and mild period-like cramps. Headache. Very bloated. Even darker positive on FRER.
13 DPO – Same as the day before. My repeat beta came back at 50.
My beta was repeated again on 15DPO (187) and 19DPO (860). My doubling time is about 25 hours.
. . . .
In the following weeks my symptoms have been fairly consistent in feeling, but seem to come and go. I learned that no two pregnancies are alike, and it’s been hard for me not to compare this pregnancy to Chloe’s because I was consistently sick with her until 16 weeks.
I suspect that implantation occurred on 8DPO, so any symptoms I had before that were likely related to day-to-day life and had nothing to do with pregnancy. I was very aware of my symptoms starting on Christmas Eve, and knew something was going on but wasn’t sure if I was pregnant or sick. In hindsight, I remember that our cats became very clingy and attached to me which is very unusual for them. The only other time I recall either of them doing this before was when I was pregnant with Chloe. Not that your animals behavior should be an indication of pregnancy, but it seemed a little coincidental to us.
My morning sickness really picked up at 6 weeks, then subsided enough that it made me worry. It came back in full force at 8 weeks and hasn’t stopped, though.
What kind of early symptoms did you experience? Did the lack of pregnancy symptoms worry you?

I tried my very best to ignore pregnancy symptoms, since they are so similar to PMS symptoms. When TTC I drove myself nuts over-analyzing every single cramp, sore boob and the like.
However, what was different with my pregnancy that I’ve never had as a PMS symptom was my extreme tiredness. I too was super exhausted all of a sudden and forced myself to take a nap 3 days in a row (DPO 4-7). This actually concerned my husband who thought that I was coming down with something. I had my positive on DPO 9.

I haven’t kept up with ovulation cuz we were ntnp for the year, I mean, I was just guestimating my ovulation. And I tested a few days before, maybe hoping for a Xmas miracle. Bfn. I tested day after Xmas eve cuz I was expecting my period the next day. Shocked to get a bfp. I don’t think I had any symptoms. I mean, I gagged, but I gag a lot, so not really indicative of pregnancy.
This time around, I am always tired and super nauseous, but I’ve only full blown thrown up once, much different than with the twins.
It’s always greener on the other side. When u have symptoms, u are miserable and wished u didn’t have it. When u don’t have it, u r filled with worry. Lol.

Every single cycle I think I have early symptoms and every cycle I’m wrong. I have to stop obsessing!!!

That’s wild that you had so many symptoms. I swear I had more symptoms the months I wasn’t pregnant. The only one i had that resulted in a bfp was bloating. So bad that it felt like cramps.

I can pinpoint my implantation day based on weird cramps and twinges and aches. (other early symptoms were too vague to really match to pregnancy.) I’m 15 weeks and so far have been blessed with very few symptoms! First trimester was mostly fatigue and sore boobs. I was nervous because I didn’t have morning sickness but the more I asked around, the more normal I realized it can be. Fun post!

That’s so funny, my cat was one of my first pregnancy “symptoms” as well. He usually prefers my husband, but all the sudden he was physically attached to me at all times. Sure enough, pregnant! I swear they just know. He stayed that way the entire pregnancy….though now I think he would return his 16 month old brother if he could!

My first and only symptom has been a funny taste in my mouth! Started at just 8 DPO this time around.

I didn’t really have any symptoms before testing both times I became pregnant. With #2, the only reason I decided I should test was because I had that weird tingling sensation in my breasts that you get when breastfeeding which was bizarre. Sure enough, I was pregnant!

oh the first trimester exhaustion, I do not miss that one bit. I would literally work all day, commute home for an hour, wolf down some dinner, and be in bed by 6:30pm for 3 months straight.

I was so sick with the twins starting at about 4 weeks. It was awful. Lilly seemed like cake walk compared to carrying them.

I like to think back to my first trimester with C as one nice long blur….a very tired blur.

I’ve been pregnant five times and every single time I had a fierce mac & cheese craving just after finding out I was pregnant, so maybe 15-20DPO. It was really weird. And my only bloody noses in my life ever were during 3 of my pregnancies in the early days (all but the one that resulted in Little M didn’t last long.)

I didn’t have any symptoms with my 1st pregnancy, but I was perpetually nauseous my entire 1st trimester in my 2nd pregnancy. Thankfully, it all went away at the 12 week mark!

With Ellie I had nothing. With Lorelei, I felt nauseated really early on. We were on vacation (camping at a SD State Park) and I couldn’t eat pretty much anything, and I usually love food cooked outdoors. Mr. T had brought wine, and I declined… just in case. He thought I was strange, but then a couple of weeks later he realized why. I wish I had a list like that to remember.
