I have a few more simple preschool art projects to share! Again, these are simple projects that don’t involve too much creativity on the part of the parent, just the child.
1. Name Collage
This activity was fun because we also got to talk about all the letters in their names, how they are formed and what sounds they make. I wrote each name in block letters on a large sheet of construction paper. I then provided them with scissors, liquid glue, glue sticks and a few crafty collage options. This way they could choose how they wanted to decorate their name. I provided yarn, cotton balls, feathers, beads, craft sticks and fabric that they could cut. I also gave them markers if they just wanted to color some of the letters. The nice thing about this project is it could also make a good gift by changing the word to a phrase like “Happy Valentine’s Day,” “I Love Grandma,” “Happy Father’s Day,” etc. but it has the child’s personal touch on it!
Since I teach at a Christian Preschool we were learning about God’s creation during September, hence the attached Bible verse. However, you could make the earth with your child for any number of reasons, including an important discussion on the importance of recycling and taking care of the earth.
All I did was trace a giant circle on a large sheet of paper. You could trace anything round, like a hat box, pot or tupperware container. I then let the kids use green and blue tempera paint to make the ground (green) and the oceans (blue). This would also be a super fun finger-painting project! Since the circle was just traced it allowed the kids to be as messy as they wanted on the paper and I just cut out the circle once the paint dried. All of their “earths” turned out different, but were pretty cool!
Happy crafting!
