So Sunny turned one at the beginning of February and Ria turns three at the end of the month. We had a little combined party for them last week while we were visiting my family. I know I had planned to do a Night Owl Party but I threw a fiesta bridal shower the week before (they’re eloping to Mexico), and then realized that the decorations were still awesome and that I was out of time and energy. Fiesta birthday party! It was really simple — we had a couple pinatas and a streamer backdrop (which I have no good photos of, even though it covered an entire wall, but it’s behind Sunny and my dad in the top left photo). My favourite decoration was the papel picado inspired banner I made with some neon cardstock and my silhouette cutter.
For snacks we did chili-lime popcorn and fruit salsa with baked cinnamon tortilla chips. My sister-in-law (below and right with my very adorable little niece) did up some deviled eggs as well — no tie-in to the theme they just have chickens and a ton of eggs.
We had tissue paper flowers for everyone!
The cake was chocolate with raspberry buttercream (made by me, although my cousin (feeding her youngest son below) finished icing it as I’m not talented enough to make it look that nice) and some homemade honey vanilla ice cream (made by my sister in law). I bought number sparklers at my favourite local cupcake shop. Ria was very impressed and wanted me to burn more things. Ummm….troubling?
Luckily all the little guests were old enough for a few bites of cake!
We didn’t have any real games, but we did have a pinata! They were too little to whack it with things so Ria and her cousin pulled the bottom off instead. I got little hair bows for the girls and toy cars for the boys.
Not that they really needed prizes, but they played happily in the scraps of tissue (leftover from making the flowers) for ages. Best game ever!
They got some great presents, and everyone had a fun time. Oh, and I got to play with my new camera! Happy birthday to my baby girls, mommy loves you!

Very cute! We are actually planning a fiesta de pueblo theme for our kids’ room when we put them together (boy and girl). There will definitely be papel picado and a mural. I am impressed with your papel picado!
