Have you ever noticed that most kiddo jeans come exceptionally long? I swear we roll every pair of new jeans up in large (but cute) cuffs, which is good because they last so much longer. Since jeans are such a major staple in our home, I try to make them last for as long as comfortably possible. So far I have found that skinny jeans have the longest life span, but only the ones with the awesome adjustable inside waist (I sometimes think even adults’ pants should have this). Here are a few of the ways I get extra bang for my buck with my kids’ skinny jeans.
- Buy them the right size, or just one size up and roll them once or twice.
- When the length finally fits, they are the best more versatile style.
- A bit too short in the fall or winter? Tuck them into tall socks then into a pair of cute boots. Hide the flood!
- A bit too short in the spring or summer? Add a roll or two, make the flood pants look like an intentional capri.
These tips work best with skinny pants that have an adjustable inside waist. Once the pants are too small around the waist, it’s pack them away or give them away time! I really had to go back through the archives of old photos to get some of these; so bittersweet to see how much my kiddos have grown. The image of the pair of cute skinny jeans I used in this post are from The Gap.
We have 3 places we are pretty loyal to when buying kids skinny jeans:
- The Gap – both boys and girls fit great, have the adjustable waist and are pretty thick and durable.
- H&M – The boys and girls jeans are the best, and they have some super slim styles (hard to find for boys).
- Zara – I buy the odd, funky pair from here. The fit is always great, but the denim is not the most durable for lots of trips and falls.
Do you have a favorite store you like to buy your kids jeans from? Do you have any fun ways to extend the life of little jeans?

do you have a few favorite brands?

@Coco Bee: I just made an edit to the post above, our top fav is H&M (great price, fit and well made), and The Gap would be next in line (mostly because the price is a bit higher).

@brandy: thanks so much!! I’ll be making a trip to H&M within the next few weeks! (It’s an hour away, so special trip!)

We have a few babygap jeans, but LO only wore them a handful of times! Glad baby 2 can make use of them too!

Nextdirect.com from England. Their styles are every bit as groovy as Boden, but priced more like Old Navy. Durability is pretty good, especially for the cost.

Wow, I wish my kids would let me dress them like that. All Mavi cares about are Crocs. HELP!!!

i am SO thankful that CB’s pair of skinnies from last fall still fit! he is nearly 3 and his 18-24 month jeans still fit with the adjustable insides totally undone. yay! i do wish grown-up pants had those, too!

@Mrs. Cowgirl: are yours h&m too??
blogger / nectarine / 2687 posts
@Coco Bee: no, they are from baby gap. The h&m ones didn’t fit him as well last year because he’s so skinny! Now that he’s a little bigger, I do want to get him some colored skinnies from h&m, though!

My favorite jeans for kids are from Old Navy. I personally don’t like skinny jeans on my boy, especially since he’s still in diapers. The bubble but isn’t cute!

@Mrs. Sunglasses: My son gets like that with shoes, creatures of habit!

@Mrs. Cowgirl: @Coco Bee: We recently noticed that H&M now has a (I think it’s called) SLIM fit for boys which fits great on those super slim boys, before their skinny jeans were not so skinny and a bit baggy.

Great advice. I buy my Love Bug’s jeans at 77Kids – they’re a little pricier @ $15-30/pair, but they last FOREVER because they’re made so well – and the adjustable tabs are a lifesaver!!

Good read. Choosing jeans for the kids may sometimes get tricky but it’s good to know that skinny jeans are also great for them. Thanks for posting.
