Although this whole pregnancy thing still feels strangely surreal (I’m 12 weeks  – when does it finally sink-in?), I’m super excited to blog for Hellobee. We’re expecting our first baby in November, just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving as a family of three.

I’d like to pretend that Mr. Tricycle and I live a glamorous, sophisticated lifestyle, but a good date night usually involves sweatpants, takeout Thai and a Redbox movie (we like to joke that adapting to life with a baby will be astonishingly easy, as we won’t have to sacrifice clubbing or exotic travel).

Mr. Tricycle and I met more than ten years ago on our first day of college, and we’ve been married for almost four. We both grew up in the country, but we’re now living in the ‘burbs in upstate New York (think Lake Ontario, not New York City).

I’m a junior high school librarian, and although I heart books, I spend most of my time collaborating with teachers and showing kids how to effectively use technology. Mr. Tricycle works for an insurance company and spends his days with cars.

Early on in our relationship we both agreed we weren’t animal people, but we experienced a random change of heart and got a puppy a couple years ago.  Meet Kiwi – our wonderful, silly dog that drives the neighbors nutty with her enthusiastic barking.

I sometimes feel like I was born in the wrong decade, as my hobbies make me sound like a 1950’s housewife. I dig sewing, cooking, and gardening, though I do loathe cleaning, laundry and lipstick, so maybe I’m in the right time period after all.  I’m looking forward to blogging about everything from growing your own baby food to sewing a crib quilt. For evidence of my DIY spirit, return to the wedding photo above  – we made my dress, veil, bouquet, and got married in my parents’ backyard. To round things out, you’ll get the blow by blow as Mr. Tricycle and I decide just how alternative we’re going to be on this pregnancy journey (acupuncture? skipping sonograms? having a homebirth?).

My old tricycle

One last thing: wondering why I picked Mrs. Tricycle? A tricycle is the very first kid-related thing we’ve acquired. It’s not just any tricycle, but rather one with a 25-year history. Although it’s no longer perfectly shiny, I’m glad to have this piece of my own childhood to pass along to my babies.
