After reading Mrs. High Heel’s post on how well room sharing was going, Mr. Bee suggested that we have Charlie and Olive (4 1/2 and 2 1/2) share a room, and we turn Olive’s small room into an office. I mentioned sharing a room to Charlie and his first response was that he wanted a bunk bed so he could sleep on the top, but not just any bunk bed — a big square one that would fit our whole family. Obviously that’s not possible, but when he mentioned a bunk bed, the Ikea Kura immediately came to mind. Charlie was also smitten with the Kura on a recent trip to Ikea.

The Kura Reversible Bed can be configured as bunk beds, just one bed on top, or just one bed on the bottom. The reason it’s a great first bunk bed is because of its low profile so the top bunk is not too high. If you choose to use it as a bunk bed, the bottom bunk is a twin floor bed, which is especially great for younger kids like Olive who currently sleeps on a floor bed. You can even put 2 Kuras in one room and sleep 4 kids! The Kura has been hacked so many different ways. You can paint it, add curtains, wallpaper, decals, a canopy, twinkle lights… even use wood to build something custom! Here are 35 inspiring Ikea Kura beds!
