Today’s real nursery comes to us from interior designer, stylist, and francophile Susan Hutchinson. You can also follow Susan on her blog, Fleurishing.
Names: Marie + Henry (7 month old twins)
Location: West Chester PA (a historic suburb of Philadelphia)
I had always wanted neutral nursery decor, but when we discovered we were having boy/girl twins, it made even more sense. The inspiration for the room was our home – I’ve always promoted nurseries as an extension of your personal style, since they are for your enjoyment more than your child’s in the beginning. The decor relates to the rest of our home… french inspired, vintage, neutral.
The nursery scheme was inspired by the Jacadi teddy bear, which my husband and I purchased in Paris years ago. The bunny bookends hold my vintage Bobbsey Twins books, and the gilded alphabet blocks are by Tiny Giraffe.
It’s hard to choose a favorite feature, but I will always treasure the custom embroidered artwork above the cribs.
My husband lovingly designed and installed the closet system, which is divided for each child. It is much more full now…baby fashions are way too fun!
The babies already have quite the book collection . . .these are the prettiest ones.
I was determined to interject gold into the nursery, and the starting point was this quatrefoil flush mount light. I love that the quatrefoil shape of the light is echoed in the radiator grate…a small detail that makes me smile with designer pride!
The dresser was my grandmother’s, and we painted it, leaving the original hardware intact. The two square art pieces are by Sarah & Bendrix & Coral & Tusk, and the sweater was mine as a baby. I just hung it without glass from a flea market frame.

Wow – do I love your neutral nursery – a color scheme I immediately realized I want to use for our twins due next March. It matches our overall house decor (I too am a Francophile…). My “aha” moment!! Thank you !!
