I know a belt might be a silly and totally useless accessory when they are really little, but sometimes that’s part of the reason why tiny accessories are so darn cute. Those little belts usually come with a pair of jeans, or a dress and usually they last maybe two wears before the cheapness of the material gives out. I found a quick way to fix an old tiny belt, and a fun and super duper easy way to make a brand new mini belt.
The first little DIY is how to make a belt. It’s about a 5 minute (at max) project.
SUPPLIES:
- One of Mom’s old cheapo belts (faux leather, and usually one with no sparkles or extra stitching works best)
- Scissors
- Glue Gun
- Take a quick measurement of her waist, or just line your old belt up next to one of hers and chop. You can cut the belt on an angle, on a curve or just keep it simple and straight.
- Take your hot glue gun, and put an line of glue along the newly cut raw edge of the belt. Once the glue has cooled a bit just run your finger along the glue to smooth it out.
- Poke new holes. A corkscrew works well and is sorta fun.
- Voila — a new mini belt.
Next, just a quick and fun way to fix an old belt – and make it even better!
SUPPLIES:
- An old tired belt
- Fabric tape (not washi tape, this is too thin and will just wrinkle)
- Scissors
- Glue Gun
- Use your glue gun to glue parts of the little belt back together if it’s in need of some help.
- Choose a fun patterned fabric tape, then start to cover the belt with one continuous piece of tape.
- When you get to the end, poke a hole in the tape so you can go over the latch. Then fold the tape over whichever side is hanging longer.
- Since the belt I chose was pretty thin, I added another piece of tape. I made sure the tape was hanging longer on the other side, so when I folded it over the belt looked even from behind.
- If you want, use your glue gun to put a small bead of glue under parts of the tape on the back side – just try to keep it really thin.
- Voila, another cute belt
This one might not last much longer than the original, but it will be extra cute while it lasts.
Do you ever repurpose anything you wear for your little one?
