When I found the Sucre Shop on Etsy, I fell in love with their customized wooden party cutlery, especially the adorable chevron spoons (the owls were a close second!). I was trying to think of how I could DIY this myself since I knew I’d need at least 50 forks for Jacobi’s first birthday party. I found a good deal on wooden forks over at Susty Party, picked up some washi tape and set to work. This DIY is so easy that anyone can do it! And it’s so cute. How fun would these be not only for a birthday party, but dinner parties, tea parties, Valentines Day, holidays and other fun events?! It’s really easy to customize with whatever washi tape you choose.
Supplies:
- wood cutlery
- washi tape
- scissors
Step 1: Gather all your supplies
Step 2: roll washi tape along the handle of the spoon/fork, being sure to make it even, then cut to the desired length. I usually have to take it off and lay it flat again to make it perfectly centered.
Step 3: cut around the corners and at the narrower parts of the spoon/fork to make the tape completely flush with the utensil.
Step 4. Press firmly to secure the tape, and voila! Adorable utensils for any occasion.

Super cute! I love all the fun washi tape out there now, but I never really know what to do with it. This is a great idea.

So cute! I’ve never used washi tape, does it really stay? I’d be so worried that it would come off!
I may have to do this for P’s party b/c I wanted to get some of those cute wooden utensils anyways but couldn’t find a design on them that really matched! If I can do them myself that would be golden!

@Mrs. Pen: So fun!

@runsyellowlites: so far I haven’t had an issue with it but you’re right it does tend to be a little less sticky than traditional tape. You could always use a tiny dab of blue of it became a problem.
@Mrs. Chalk: I have so many ideas! Maybe I’ll do that as a post next

Silly question, but does it taste like wood when you eat with it? Or is it sealed with something?

I love this! Another idea to steal from you, but I think I might try this with a custom rubber stamp.

@mrsjazz: yes I thought of Doing that too! But I wanted chevron ones and I couldn’t find chevron stamps,
@Grace: I’m honestly not sure… I haven’t tested it out yet!

Baby O’s 1st birthday is arriving, and although we are keeping it extremely low key, a few fun things like this are unexpected and very cute. weird question…are the wood utensils you bought rough or smooth? i absolutely hate wood utensils that are rough and sort of scrape along your teeth. it’s like nails on a chalk board for me. just curious.

@Mrs. Scooter: yay ffor first birthdays
they’re exciting! She’s only a couple months younger than Cobi ;). The wood spoons/forks are really smooth- no splinters and I did eat off them and they don’t have a weird taste. I really like them and it is a nice, fun little extra
@mrsvivian: hahah! I actually ordered ice cream scoops from them since I couldn’t find any plain wood ones

SO SMART! and thanks to the find for inexpensive cutlery. Now if only I found cheap washi tape. We don’t have target (yet) and Pick you plum charges too much to ship to Canada. Where did you get yours?
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@Mrs. Sunglasses: Thanks! I found the washi tape on Pick Your Plum, well some of it. But I did notice it’s significantly less quality than the other ones I got at Archivers, which I love. I just noticed that archivers now offers online shopping AND ships to CA so you’re in luck
However it’s not *cheap*. And you have to pay shipping. We have an archivers store, it’s $3 roll there.
Otherwise I would check etsy too. My little otter has some cute washi!
