I recently threw my three year old daughter a birthday party, and I was scrambling last minute to make a garland to hang over the table. I decided to try making tassels out of gift wrap tissue, and it worked out great! The project took me about an hour start to finish, and it made the perfect backdrop for the party table!
You only need a few supplies to make a tassel garland.
1) Cutting mat
2) Rotary Cutters
3) Clear Fishing Wire
4) Kitchen Twine, or Small Rope
5) Gift Wrap tissue (colors of your choice in paper or metallic)
Step 1: Take the pack of tissue wrap, and fold it lengthwise.
Step 2: Leaving about two inches tissue untouched at the top, cut 3/4 inch strips across the tissue.
Step 3: Cut strips across the entire tissue.
Step 4: Open up the tissue so that there is fringe on the top and bottom.
Step 5: Starting at one end, carefully roll up the tissue down the middle.
Step 6: Once you roll up the tissue wrap to the end, take the middle section, and twist in the opposite direction on each side.
Step 7: Once twisted tight, push together twisted section to form a loop.
Step 8: Keep squeezing together the top portion, and secure with clear fishing line. Tie the fishing line about two inches from the top, and double knot it so it is secure and the loop still has an opening. Cut off any excess fishing line.
Step 9: Next, use the kitchen twine or rope, and run it through the loop to start creating the garland.
Step 10: Continue with steps 1-9 with various colors and types of tissue wrap. Make as many tassels as you need, and string them along the rope, spacing them as you go.
String it up, and use it as the perfect backdrop for your next party!

The best photo tutorial I’ve seen! Thank you! I made one of these this afternoon. For beginners I do not recommend using the Mylar tissue. The paper tissue is much easier to work with.
